Kelcie Herron Banks (born May 8, 1965 in Chicago ) is a retired American boxer.

Boxing career

The approximately 1.83 m tall featherweight (up to 57 kg) won the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1984, the National Golden Gloves in 1985 , and the US Championships in 1986 and 1987. He is also the winner of the Olympic Festival in the USA in 1986 and 1987.

At the international level, he won the silver medal at the World Cup in South Korea in 1985 and the gold medal at the World Championships in Reno in 1986 . On the way to the title he defeated Memet Kılıç, Turkey (knockout), Bill Downey, Canada (5: 0), Andreas Zülow , GDR (4: 1) and Jesus Sollet, Cuba (4: 1). In 1987 the gold medal followed at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis .

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , he surprisingly lost in the first fight by knockout in the first round against Regilio Tuur from the Netherlands.

After more than 500 amateur fights, he finally switched to the professionals in 1989. There he played 30 fights with 22 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws. He suffered two of his defeats against Ike Quartey and Keith Holmes . In 1997 he ended his career after a knockout loss in the first round against the Dane Søren Søndergaard ,
