Masnières is a commune with 2,717 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Cambrai and is part of the canton Le Cateau-Cambrésis (until 2015: Canton Marcoing ). The inhabitants are called Masnièrois .
geography
Masnières lies on the Scheldt and the ship channel Canal de Saint-Quentin , about seven kilometers south of the center of Cambrai . Masnières is surrounded by the neighboring communities Rumilly-en-Cambrésis in the north, Crèvecœur-sur-l'Escaut in the east, Les Rues-des-Vignes in the south and south-east, Villers-Plouich in the south-west and Marcoing in the west.
The Autoroute A26 (the Masnières junction is in the municipality of Banteux) and the former Route nationale 44 (today's D644) run through the municipality .
history
In November 1917, the place was almost completely destroyed in the Battle of Cambrai.
