Les Rues-des-Vignes is a French commune with a population of 801 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Cambrai and is part of the canton Le Cateau-Cambrésis (until 2015: Canton Marcoing ). The inhabitants are called Ruvignois .
geography
Les Rues-des-Vignes is about eight kilometers south of Cambrai on the Scheldt . Les Rues-des-Vignes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Masnières in the north and north-west, Crèvecœur-sur-l'Escaut in the east, Aubencheul-aux-Bois , Bantouzelle and Honnecourt-sur-Escaut in the south, Banteux in the south-west and Villers-Plouich in the West.
history
In the Middle Ages the place was called Vinchy . It was here that the Battle of Vincy took place in 717 . With the victory in this battle, Karl Martell laid the foundation for the replacement of the Merovingians by the Carolingians .
