Toponymy
From the 11th century onwards, Awoingt appears in different spellings: Auwaing, Auvaing, Awaing, Oen, Oeng, Awin, Avaing, Avayn and Auvin . It is assumed that the prefix Av / Aw / Au / Auwe refers to eau (= water) . Another theory suggests the origin of the name with the frequency of the personal names Avo, Awo and Owo in the 8th and 9th centuries.
