Saulzoir is a French commune with 1,753 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Cambrai and the Canton of Caudry (until 2015: Canton of Solesmes ). The inhabitants are called salicétains .

geography

Saulzoir is about 16 kilometers northeast of Cambrai . The river Selle flows through the community . Saulzoir is surrounded by the neighboring communities Haspres in the north and north-west, Verchain-Maugre in the north and north-east, Haussy and Montrécourt in the east and south-east, Saint-Aubert in the south and Villers-en-Cauches in the west and south-west.

history

The battle of Sabis ( Sabis is the Latin name of Selle) Julius Caesar's against the Nervians may have taken place here around 57 BC .
