Cantaing-sur-Escaut is a commune in the French department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the canton of Le Cateau-Cambrésis (until 2015 canton Marcoing ) in the Arrondissement of Cambrai . It borders on Anneux to the northwest , Fontainte-Notre-Dame to the north, Proville to the northeast, Noyelles-sur-Escaut to the southeast, Flesquières to the southwest and Graincourt-lès-Havrincourt to the west .
geography
The community is located on the Upper Scheldt , five kilometers southwest of Cambrai .
history
The village was almost completely destroyed during the First World War .
In 1938 “Cantaing” became “Cantaing-sur-Escaut”.
