Fontaine-Notre-Dame is a French village with 1,780 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Cambrai and the canton of Cambrai (until 2015: canton of Cambrai-Ouest ). The inhabitants are called Fontenois .
geography
Fontaine-Notre-Dame is west of Cambrai . The Scheldt and the Canal de Saint-Quentin flow in the southeast of the municipality . Fontaine-Notre-Dame is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Raillencourt-Sainte-Olle in the north, Cambrai in the east, Proville in the east and south-east, Cantaing-sur-Escaut in the south, Anneux in the south-west and Bourlon in the west and north-west.
The A2 autoroute and the former Route nationale 30 (today's D630) run through the municipality .
history
Fontaine-Notre-Dame was directly in the front zone of the so-called Hindenburg Line . The place was almost completely destroyed in the First World War .
