Fressies is a municipality with 572 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the French department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the canton of Cambrai (until 2015 canton Cambrai-Ouest ) in the Arrondissement of Cambrai .

geography

Fressies borders in the northwest on Aubigny-au-Bac , in the northeast with Féchain , in the east with Hem-Lenglet , in the southeast with Abancourt , in the southwest with Épinoy and in the west with Aubencheul-au-Bac . In the north, the Canal de la Sensée touches the municipality mark . The natural course of the Sensée to the north also leads over Fressies and flows through a small lake called Marais du Bac.

history

The village already existed in the 12th century. Earlier place names were "Freseis" and "Fressies" or "Frissies".
