Location of In der Krabb in Bergisch Gladbach |
In der Krabb is a district in the Hand district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name In der Krabb is based on the old tub designation In der Krabbe , which was recorded for the 18th century in the original cadastre in the area of today's street. In the 18th century the settlement is mentioned under the names Krabben und Kraben as being owned by the Paffrath Fronhof.
etymology
The meaning of the extremely rare field name Krabb remains largely unclear. It could be a derivation of the popular adjective krabbig (= inhospitable). More probable is a derivation from the Middle High German grabe (= ditch) or the diminutive grabelin , according to which the tub designation referred to a former moat or stream. The name of the neighboring settlement Im Grafeld (= Grabenfeld) could confirm this interpretation.
