Location of Im Grafeld in Bergisch Gladbach |
In Grafeld is a district in the Hand district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The settlement Im Grafeld was named after the old designation of the same name , which is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of today's street and whose key word was named Grafwege as early as 1444 .
etymology
The meaning of the determinant Gra (f) cannot be clearly determined. It may be derived from the Middle High German graft (= ditch), which in field names denotes a moat, a small stream or a small body of stagnant water. After that, Grafeld is a ditch field. A connection with the Grafenweg , which was mentioned in the 15th century and which corresponded in its course to the neighboring Handstraße , which led to Boechholtz , a beech stock that was mentioned in 1448 as owned by the Dukes of Berg , is also conceivable .
