Dean Devlin (born August 27, 1962 in New York City ) is an American film producer , screenwriter , occasional director and former actor .

His mother was the actress Pilar Seurat , who died in 2001, and his father Don Devlin was a film producer.

Dean Devlin began his career in the film business as a supporting actor in the early 1980s. He mainly played a small role in individual episodes of various television series such as Happy Days . In 1985 he took on a role in the film What a Genius . Other such engagements followed, in 1990 he was seen in a supporting role in Roland Emmerich's Moon 44 .

The collaboration with Roland Emmerich intensified when Devlin made his debut as a screenwriter with the story for Emmerich's Universal Soldier in 1992 . This science fiction film marked the breakthrough in Hollywood for both of them . Their next film together was Stargate in 1994 , for which Devlin also worked as a producer. In Independence Day and Godzilla himself repeated this cooperation, Devlin wrote the screenplays and acted as producer. In 2000, the historical film The Patriot was made , but Dean was only involved as a producer. Emmerichs and his last cooperation so far took place two years later, when both were producing Arac Attack - attack of the eight-legged monster , afterwards they parted ways. Dean Devlin continued to work as a producer and screenwriter, and various television and cinema productions were made. He is also an executive producer on the television series Leverage , for which he also worked as a director several times.

In June 2016, Independence Day: Wiederkehr was released , on which he worked again with Roland Emmerich. In 2017, Geostorm, the first feature film he directed, was released.

He has been married to actress Lisa Brenner since 2003 .
