content
The scientists Dr. Billy Hayes and Dr. El Lincoln work at the Humanidyne Institute in Los Angeles , where they research people with unusual abilities. Mostly by chance, the specialists come across a new case in each episode, which prevents Billy and El from doing the research that their employer Humanidyne intended for them. In addition to Humanidyne , the sponsor is the US military , with whom the specialists often come into conflict.
Characters
- Doctor William "Billy" Hayes
- is a brilliant scientist who is a bit unconventional. He has a problem with authority , prefers to wear brightly colored t-shirts, loves women and tequila . His dream is to receive the five million prize from the Humanidyne research laboratory for which he works. For this reason he brings the specialists together. As the only member of the specialist team, he has no special skills, but he is the head of the team and mostly develops the plans.
- Doctor Elvin "El" Lincoln
- is Billy's best friend and works with him at Humanidyne . The African American is unhappy about his eight-foot-eight, as he cannot play basketball , for example , as one would expect from a black man his height. That is why he developed a serum to solve this problem: if El exerts pressure on a neural point in his neck , the serum is distributed in his bloodstream and shrinks to a size of approx. 20 cm for 14 minutes. However, this only works once an hour. Since his clothes do not shrink with him, he usually has the clothes of Barbie men with him.
- John "Johnny B." Bukowski
- is a rock musician , guitarist and songwriter. Since an accident during a concert with a 20,000- volt - PA system he has the ability to electrical energy to absorb and in the form of lightning release it. He can also move very quickly. However, it must not come into contact with water.
- Gloria Dinallo
- was born with telekinetic abilities and therefore considers herself an outsider. In the course of her childhood she was in different reform homes and met Billy. She often comes into conflict with the law over minor offenses.
- Jane Miller
- is Gloria's probation officer who tries very hard to help her protégé. Billy seems to be interested in her too, although the two often clash because of their different views. Jane only appeared in the first few episodes. In the episode At the Last Second , it turns out that she is expecting a child from her ex-husband.
- Richard "Dick" Stetmeyer
- is the managing director of Humanidyne who often struggles with Billy's unconventional nature. He is responsible for ensuring that the specialists at least adhere to the basic rules. Often he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown . Dick is in charge of the lab's finances, so he needs applications for the funders. However, he lets himself be softened by Billy and El again and again when they are on the trail of something extraordinary.
- Miss Nance
- is Dr. Hayes' secretary. She takes advantage of all the benefits her union has negotiated but is otherwise poorly organized.
- Arthur Beifneiter
- is known as Ice Man because he can only survive in absolute cold . If he touches things with his bare hand, they freeze instantly. Since they had to transport it, the specialists organized an ice cream truck when they worked together for the first time, which later remained their emergency vehicle. Ice Man only appeared in the pilot episode.
