Denis Makarov (born December 23, 1986 in Jarowoje ) is a German boxer .

Career

Denis Makarov started boxing as a teenager with Boxfreunde Bottrop , the club to which he still belongs. His trainer is Hansi Mazurek. He reached the top German class of amateur boxers as a junior and also started for the boxing club Velbert v. 1922 in the German Bundesliga. He mainly trains at the Rhein-Neckar Olympic base in Heidelberg .

In 2005 Denis Makarov became German junior flyweight champion with a victory over Mathias Seidenstricker from Schwedt / Oder . In the same year he reached the bantamweight final at the 10th Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt (Oder) , in which he was narrowly defeated by the Russian Sergei Schigaschew. He also represented the German colors at the 2005 European Junior Championships in Tallinn . He won there first over Julian Stan from Romania , but then retired in the quarterfinals with a point defeat against the eventual European champion Aslan Aschba from Russia .

At the German championship 2006 Denis Makarov lost in the bantamweight in the quarter-finals against Mathias Seidenstricker and came in fifth place. He did much better at the German championship in 2007, because here he reached the final, in which he was defeated by the veteran Rustam Rachimow on points. After all, it made him runner-up in Germany. He also started in 2007 at the European Union Championship in Dublin , where he won over David Oltvani from Hungary and Joseph Murray from England . In the final he faced the strong Bulgarian Detelin Dalakliew , against whom he lost on points.

In 2008 Denis Makarov won his first German championship title in Straubing . He won the final of the bantamweight over the actual favorite Marcel Schneider from Frankfurt / Oder. For the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games in Beijing , however, Rustam Rachimow was preferred to him by the DABV. But he started at the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 , which took place after the Olympic Games. With victories over Shatsischan Sharaschnow from Belarus , Ryan Lindberg from Ireland and Peter Moishenson from Israel and a point defeat in the semi-finals against Luke Campbell from England , he won a bronze medal .

In 2009 Denis Makarov won the "Zlatko-Hrbic" tournament in Zagreb, the bantamweight competition with a victory in the final over the Russian Sinat Schandibajew. He then celebrated a great success at the European Union championship in Odense . He defeated there in the bantamweight Razwan Andrei from Romania , Andrew Selby from Wales and John Nevin from Ireland (9: 7) and thus won the championship.

In May 2009 he was with the German boxing team for two international matches in Canada . He won against Joey Lavioletta in Regina and lost to David Gauthier. He was then nominated for the Amateur World Championships in Milan in September 2009 , where, after victories against the Italians Vittorio Parrinello (8: 5) and Jesus Magdaleno from the USA (11: 8) in the round of 16 against the Uzbek Tulashboy Doniyorov (3: 8 ) retired.

Denis Makarov celebrated his greatest success in June 2010 at the European Championships in Moscow . He competed there in featherweight and defeated Geibatulla Gadschialijew (Azerbaijan) in the round of 16 (10: 1). He then met in the quarter-finals against the favorite and ex-bantamweight world champion Sergei Wodopjanow , whom he surprisingly beat on points (7: 4). With a victory over the Belarusian Sjarhej Kunitsyn (5: 1) in the semifinals, he moved into the final, where he defeated the Englishman Iain Weaver (7: 2) and thus secured the European title.

At the European Championships 2011 in Ankara , Denis Makarov was not at the start because of the preparation for the World Championships this year. At the World Championships in Baku he initially achieved a non-fighting victory over Rafli Langi, Indonesia, but was defeated in the round of the last 32 boxers against Lazaro Alvera from Cuba on points (8:13) and only came in 17th place. In November 2011 he was again German champion. He clearly defeated Marcel Schneider on points in the final (14: 6).

Dennis Makarov started the year 2012 with a victory at the 39th Chemistry Cup in Halle (Saale). He beat Tugstsogt Nyambayar, Mongolia (12:20), Pedro Quipo, Peru (17: 4) and Orzubek Schajimow, Uzbekistan (+0: 0) on points. At the only European qualifying tournament in April 2012 in Trabzon, Turkey, he did not succeed in qualifying for the Olympic Games in London . He won his first fight there against Michal Zatorsky from Slovakia on points (14.9), but was then defeated in the quarterfinals against Məhəmməd Əbdülhəmidov from Azerbaijan (4:13), which brought him to 5th place. At the end of November 2012 he was then German champion for the fourth time in Oldenburg with a points win in the final over Erik Sokolov.

In 2013 Makarov reached the final of the German Championships again, but lost it to Edgar Walth . This was his last participation in the German championships for the time being
