Tyrone McCullough , also Tyrone McCullagh , (born September 9, 1990 in Derry , Northern Ireland ) is a British professional boxer in the super bantamweight division .
Amateur career
Tyrone McCullough was Irish Cadet Champion in 2007 and Irish Junior Champion in 2008. He was also a participant in the 2007 Cadet World Championships (preliminary round) and the 2008 World Youth Championships (round of 16).
After he had achieved a bronze bantamweight medal at the Irish Championships in 2009 after a semi-final loss to John Nevin , he won the Irish featherweight championship in 2010 by beating James Fryers in the final. He was then allowed to start at international events and was used at the 2010 European Championships in Moscow . There he defeated Petru Apostol from Moldova and Azat Hovhanesyan from Armenia, before losing to the Englishman Iain Weaver in the semifinals and winning a bronze medal in the featherweight division. He then took part in the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi , where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals 3: 4 against Sean McGoldrick .
In 2011 he was Irish runner-up in bantamweight after a final defeat by John Nevin and won a bronze medal in the lightweight the following year. In 2014 he was defeated at the Irish Championships in the bantamweight final against eventual world champion Michael Conlan , but had defeated Kurt Walker in the semifinals .
Professional career
In April 2014 McCullough signed a professional contract with the English doctoral company Carl Greaves Promotion . He won his debut on July 25, 2015. After ten victories in a row, he won unanimously on June 30, 2018 against the also unbeaten Joe Ham (balance: 14-0) and thereby became Celtic Champion of the British Superbantamweight Boxing Association.
On October 5, 2018, he also defeated the undefeated Josh Kennedy (11-0) unanimously and won the WBO European Superbantamweight Championship. He suffered his first defeat in February 2020 against Ryan Walsh (25-2).
