The new Raschötzer Bahn is a funicular that has been connecting Ortisei in Val Gardena ( South Tyrol ) with the Rasciesa since 2010 .

history

The first chairlift to the Rasciesa was built by Leo Demetz-Cademia and his cousin Luis Trenker between 1951 and 1952. It was one of the first ascent systems in the Dolomites, which also overcame a considerable difference in altitude. The drive through the Rasciesa Forest took 20 minutes and was a very calming experience in pleasant weather conditions. In 2009 this, one of the last existing 1-seater chairlifts, with the last ride on August 30th, was discontinued because it no longer met modern safety requirements and could no longer be colluded .

Construction of the new railway

The decision was made to build a funicular because a chairlift or a cable car with adequate protection against the weather would have been too expensive for annual maintenance. At the valley station there would not have been enough space for a cable car station either, and they wanted to be able to transport both pedestrians and mountain bikers or families with buggies, which would not have been possible with a 1-seater chairlift. The course of the train corresponds to the route of the old chairlift.

After about 100 m underground in the residential area of the village of Ortisei, the railway line always runs on the level of the surrounding forest area. A 250 m long and 20 m high metal bridge only had to be built in the upper half. Four underpasses make it possible to cross the forest road, which is a natural toboggan run in winter. The mountain station and the adjacent machine room are roofed with a wooden structure.

The train consists of two wagons that can each carry 90 passengers, the journey time is around 10 minutes. At an altitude of 1,800 m, an intermediate station allows you to get off the historic Troi Paian .

The Rasciesa funicular is the longest funicular in South Tyrol with an operating length of 2402 m in one section. The Mendelbahn near Kaltern is 2,374 m long.

Commissioning took place on September 17, 2010.
