The Gardena Ronda Express funicular (according to the Valgardena Ronda Express label ) is located in Val Gardena in South Tyrol ( Italy ). The route runs entirely underground near the center of St. Christina , but in the municipality of Selva , and overcomes a height difference of 142 m. At a speed of up to 36 km / h, an average inclination of 11.5% can be transported up to 2,000 people per direction per hour.
The valley station is in Ruacia , the mountain station in the Tschisles valley. The railway connects two large ski areas, namely Seceda-Col Raiser in the north and Ciampinoi in the south. The first ideas for the railway already came in 1990. After a route change in favor of the residents, construction work began in 2003. The entire railway technology was supplied by the leading South Tyrolean company Leitner AG in the market segment .
With the construction of the railway, after the Val Gardena Railway was discontinued in 1960, a rail-bound vehicle is again running in Val Gardena after more than forty years. In 2010 a second funicular in Val Gardena, the Raschötzer Bahn in Ortisei , was put into operation.
