Boxing career

The approx. 1.67 m left-hand boom was launched for Russia in 2005. He was Russian runner-up in 2005 and won the silver medal at the Anwar Chowdhry Tournament in Baku . He was eliminated in the final against the later two-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion Zhou Shiming . At the Multinations Tournament 2005 in Ireland, he was also just defeated by three-time EU champion David Joyce (29: 29+).

In 2006 he reached third place at the Russian Championships and won the Spanish Boxam Tournament in Lanzarote . He defeated Semen Sakarides from Cyprus (5-0), the later two-time European champion and vice-world champion Andrew Selby from Wales (35:19) and in the final the Olympic medalist Vincenzo Picardi from Italy (40:18).

In 2007 he was again Russian runner-up and took part in the military world games in India, where he was just eliminated against South Korean Lee Dong-won (8: 9) in 7th place. At an Olympic Games test event in Beijing in 2007, he lost in the preliminary round to Chatchai Butdee from Thailand.

In 2008 he became Russian champion with a final victory against Mikhail Alojan . He then took part in the European Championships in Liverpool in 2008 , where he was disqualified in the first fight against the Spaniard Francisco Torrijos. In 2009 he achieved only one significant success when he won a bronze medal at the Chemistry Cup tournament in Germany.

From 2010 he boxed for Azerbaijan and in the same year won the Azerbaijani championship by beating Michat Seidow in the final. At the 2010 European Championships in Moscow , he got out of the quarter-finals without a fight and thus reached seventh place. For the team "Azerbaijan Baku Fires" he fought in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) from 2010 to 2014 and won each of his eight fights, including against the two Olympians Dennis Ceylan and Łukasz Maszczyk .

In 2011 he won the gold medal at the World Cup of Petroleum Countries in Surgut, Russia, and took part in the European Olympic qualification in Trabzon in 2012 . There he reached the final with victories against the Slovak Michal Zatorsky, the German Denis Makarov and the Georgian Merab Turkadze, which automatically qualified him for the 2012 Olympic Games in London . For the final fight against the Ukrainian Pavlo Ishchenko , he then did not participate. But he lost at a tournament in Minsk against the Russian world champion Sergei Wodopjanow with 8: 8+.

At the 2012 Olympic Games, he received a lucky bye for the preliminary round and was therefore allowed to enter the round of 16. There he met the Japanese Satoshi Shimizu , third place in the Asian Olympic qualification in 2012 in Astana . Əbdülhəmidov was the clearly better boxer in the first two rounds and won the rounds 4: 2 and 8: 3, where he also scored a knockdown against Shimizu in the first round. In addition, the Japanese was counted in the second round after a heavy hit. With a point advantage of 12: 5, Əbdülhəmidov started the third and last round, but suddenly seemed to collapse and went to the ground six times in the further course of the fight, whereby he was neither taken out of the fight nor counted according to the rules. In the end, Əbdülhəmidov was surprisingly declared the winner with 22:17, against which the Japanese team protested. The world boxing association AIBA then overturned the judgment and determined Shimizu to be the winner through superiority. The Turkmen referee and an Azerbaijani AIBA official were suspended on charges of bribery.

Məhəmməd Əbdülhəmidov has been boxing under the Turkish flag since the beginning of 2014. In November 2014 he won the Governor Cup in Saint Petersburg with three wins .
