Alexander Kleid (born October 29, 1975 in Böblingen ) is a German documentary filmmaker .

Life

After training as a state-approved educator in Schwäbisch Hall, Alexander Kleid studied communication sciences in Berlin . After an internship as an assistant director at Neue Filmproduktion Berlin (NFP), he founded the DOK-WERK film cooperative with Daniela Michel, which moved to Berlin in 2014. Their joint debut film Eiszeit was awarded the title “Valuable” by the film evaluation office in Wiesbaden . His documentary film Im Schatten des Tafelberg , also produced together with Daniela Michel, was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize in 2010 . The film was also shown at numerous international film festivals, including the Durban International Film Festival and the Margret Mead Film Festival in New York. His cinema documentary Berlin Rebel High School , published in 2016, received the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival and was nominated as best documentary for the German Film Award 2017 .

Alexander Kleid is a member of the German Film Academy and the European Film Academy . In addition to his work as a documentary filmmaker, he teaches documentary film at the Mosbach Cooperative State University and the University of St. Gallen .
