Jarowoje ( Russian Яровое ) is a city in the Altai region in southern Western Siberia ( Russia ) with 18,604 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the north bank of the Bolschoje Jarowoje salt lake (Russian Большое Яровое ), about 400 kilometers west of the regional capital Barnaul in the western part of the Kulunda steppe . The northern neighboring city of Slavgorod is only 8 kilometers away and the border with Kazakhstan is only 15 kilometers away.
The city of Jarowoje is administratively directly subordinate to the region.
history
The place was founded in 1944 when, during the Second World War, a bromine chemical plant evacuated from Krasnoperekopsk in the Crimea (now Ukraine ) was rebuilt for production based on the salts extracted from Lake Bolshoye Yarovoye. The place was named after the lake (Russian jar for high, steep bank ).
In 1966 the status of an urban-type settlement was granted, on March 30, 1993 Jarowoje received city rights.

Economy and Infrastructure
In addition to the Altaichimprom chemical plant, there are companies in the construction industry.
The Tatarskaya - Karassuk - Kulunda - Malinowoje Osero railway with a freight connection to the Jarowoje chemical plant and the regional road running along the railway run through the nearby Slavgorod .
