Sibirski ( Russian Сиби́рский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Altai region ( Russia ) with 11,306 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the Altai foreland , a good 20 km as the crow flies north of the regional capital of Barnaul . The Powalicha flows not far from the settlement and flows into the Ob a good 10 km southwest from the right .

Sibirski is one of the closed settlements (SATO) in Russia and as such is administratively directly subordinate to the regional administration. The settlement is the territory of the Rajons Pervomaisky enclosed, but is not part of the Rajons, as opposed to just over 5 km to the northwest village of the same name Sibirski .

history

After the decision made in 1979 to relocate a unit of the Soviet Strategic Missile Forces from the North Caucasus to the area, the construction of the associated housing estate for the military and their families began in 1980. The first residential building was completed at the end of 1982.

In 1995 the settlement was given the status of an urban-type settlement and at the same time as SATO under the previously unofficial name taken from the nearby village.

Culture and sights

In 2001 a Russian Orthodox Church was built in Sibirski and consecrated in the name of Saint Barbara , who is considered the patron saint of missile troops in Russia .

Economy and Infrastructure

Sibirski is urbanization and supply the center of the missile 35. Division of the guard 33. Army missile ( Omsk ) connected intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type RS-12M Topol is equipped (SS-25).

The railway line Novosibirsk  - Barnaul (the eastern section of the former Turkestan-Siberian Railway ) with several stops for suburban trains runs west of the village . The R256 Tschuiski trakt trunk road , which connects Novosibirsk with the Altai Mountains and the Mongolian border, also runs right past the western edge of the settlement.
