Administrative division of the Altai region
The Altai region in South Siberia ( Russia ) is divided into 60 Rajons and 12 cities and settlements directly subordinate to the regional administration.
The reform of local self-government, which has been carried out across Russia since 2003, will not be completed in the Altai region by 2009. Therefore, for example, no urban districts have yet been formed, as in many other regions, but rather the form of (rajon-free) regionally subordinate cities that has been common since the Soviet period. The number of 60 rajons represents the maximum value for a subject of the Russian Federation .
