history
Slavgorod was created in 1910 as part of the resettlement of farmers in the western part of the Kulunda steppe, which was previously rarely used for agriculture.
In 1914 the place was reached by a branch line branching off from the Trans-Siberian Railway in Tatarsk , the Kulunda Railway . The importance of the place grew quickly and so it received city rights in 1917. The city name was derived from the Russian words slawa for fame and gorod for city .
In 1924 the railway line was initially extended to Kulunda. The place gained industrial importance during World War II , when a forging press plant from Serpukhov and a chemical plant from Krasnoperekopsk were relocated here.

Culture and sights
In the planned city, individual buildings from the founding time at the beginning of the 20th century have been preserved. The town's local history museum is housed in one of these houses.
The area around Slavgorod is one of the main settlement areas for Russian Germans ; the national district of Halbstadt extends only a few kilometers northeast. The erection of a Thälmann memorial during the Soviet Union should also be understood in this context .
economy
In addition to mechanical engineering companies (forging presses) and the chemical industry ( Altaichimprom ), there is the construction industry and, in particular, the food industry, as Slavgorod is one of the centers of the important agricultural area of the Kulunda steppe .
