Krasnoperekopsk (Ukrainian Красноперекопськ - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Jany Kapu / Яни Капу; Russian Красноперекопск ) is a city in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea , Ukraine with 30,000 inhabitants. It is located on the isthmus of Perekop about 120 km northwest of Simferopol .
The largest soda factory in Ukraine is located in Krasnoperekopsk , because of which the place was founded in 1932 as a settlement for the workers of today's soda factory. The city has had the city statute since 1966 and is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name , but not part of it.
The name refers to the city of Perekop , which was destroyed in 1920 , the addition of "Krasno-" means "red-". The city is located on the North Crimean Canal and the Dzankoy – Kherson railway line , one of the two railway lines that connect Crimea with the mainland.
history
When it was founded, Krasnoperekopsk was part of the Crimean Oblast within the Russian SFSR .
By resolution of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Pereyaslav , Krasnoperekopsk and the Crimea Oblast were annexed to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on April 26, 1954 . From 1991 to 2014 Krasnoperekopsk was part of independent Ukraine.
Since the internationally unrecognized annexation of the Crimean peninsula to Russia in March 2014, Krasnoperekopsk has de facto belonged to the federal subject of Southern Russia of the Russian Federation. De jure, according to the administrative-territorial division of Ukraine, Krasnoperekopsk is part of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea , which is one of the territories occupied by Russia.
