Lenine (Ukrainian Леніне - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Jedy-Kujo / Єди-Кую; Russian Ленино / Lenino , Crimean Tatar Yedi Kuyu ) is an urban-type settlement in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with around 8,200 inhabitants (2013).

It is located on the Kerch peninsula , 156 kilometers north-east of Simferopol inland around a railway station and is the administrative center of the Lenine district .

history

The settlement was built in the course of the construction of the railway line from Dzhankoy to Kerch (branch line of the Kursk-Kharkiv-Sevastopol railway) at the end of the 19th century and was called Sem Kolodesei / Sim Kolodjasiw (Семь Колодезей / Сім Колодязів - just like the Crimean name in German "Seven Fountains") and was then renamed in the course of the appointment to an urban-type settlement in the function of the district center of the Lenine district. The name is derived from Lenin .
