Staryj Krym (Ukrainian Старий Крим ; Russian Старый Крым / Stary Krym , Crimean Tatar Eski Qırım ; Old Crimea ) is a city in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea . It is located about 15 kilometers west of Feodosia and 78 kilometers east of Simferopol in the interior of the peninsula.
Today the place with a population of 40% Crimean Tatars is best known for its cardiac sanatorium. The oldest mosque on the peninsula, the Mosque of Uzbek Chan , built in 1314 under the rule of Sultan Mohammed Öz Beg (Ösbek Chan ), is located here.
history
The place, which the invading Tatars made the capital of the Crimean khanate in the 13th century, gives its name to the Crimean peninsula . It fell into disrepair after the capital was moved to Bakhchysaray and was only revived after the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 1783. During this time he was given the name Staryj Krym to indicate its importance for the peninsula. In the Russian Empire, Staryj Krym belonged to the Taurian Governorate , which existed until October 1921.
In 1805, German settlers of Protestant faith settled near the then Tatar city and founded a wine-growing settlement of the same name.
After the October Revolution , it was part of the ASSR of Crimea within the Russian SFSR .
The Russian writer Alexander Grin spent the last years of his life in the village and died here in 1932.
By resolution of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Perejaslav , Staryj Krym and the Crimean Oblast were annexed to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on April 26, 1954 . From 1991 to 2014 Staryj Krym was part of independent Ukraine.
Since the internationally unrecognized annexation of the Crimean peninsula to Russia in March 2014, Staryj Krym has de facto belonged to the federal subject Southern Russia of the Russian Federation. De jure, according to the administrative-territorial division of Ukraine, Staryj Krym is part of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea , which is one of the territories occupied by Russia.
