Pervomajske (Ukrainian Первомайське ; Russian Первомайское / Perwomaiskoje , Crimean Tatar Curçı ) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of the raion of the same name in the north of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea , Ukraine with about 9,000 inhabitants (2016).

Pervomayske is located on the N 05 highway 97 km north of Simferopol , the capital of Crimea, and 49 km south of Armyansk . In addition to Pervomajske, the settlement council also includes the villages of Makariwka ( Макарівка ) with around 35 inhabitants and Pschenytschne ( Пшеничне ) with around 500 inhabitants and the settlement of Uporne ( Упорне ) with around 320 inhabitants.

history

The first written mention of the village with the then name Dschurtschy (Ukrainian Джурчи́ ) comes from the year 1798. Before the Second World War , Dschurtschy was one of the few villages in the Crimean steppe where Estonians lived. From November 28, 1941 to April 12, 1944, the place was occupied by Wehrmacht troops. After the liberation by the Red Army , the village was renamed Pervomajske in 1944. Since 1959 the settlement has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

Pervomajske is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name, founded in 1935. Pervomayske Raion is located in the north of the Crimean peninsula, but has no access to the Black Sea . It has 35,500 inhabitants and an area of ​​1474 km². The population density is 24 inhabitants per km².
