Dschankoj (Ukrainian and Russian Джанкой ; Crimean Tatar Canköy ) is a city under direct administration in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea . It is the seat of the Rajonsverwaltung of the Rajons Dschankoj Rajons of the same name , but not part of it itself.

Dzhankoy is located in the north of the Crimean peninsula , near the North Crimean Canal . The city is located 96 km north of Simferopol .

history
Dzhankoy was first mentioned in 1855 . At that time, many German colonists settled in this area. With the construction of the railway line to Feodosiya , the city took off. In the Russian Empire, Dschankoj belonged to the Taurian Governorate , which existed until October 1921. After the October Revolution , Dzhankoy was part of the ASSR of Crimea within the Russian SFSR . In 1926 the place received city rights.
By resolution of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Pereyaslav , Dzhankoy and the Crimean Oblast became part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic on April 26, 1954 . From 1991 to 2014, Dzhankoy was part of independent Ukraine.
Since the internationally unrecognized annexation of the Crimean peninsula to Russia in March 2014, Dzhankoy has de facto belonged to the federal subject of southern Russia of the Russian Federation. According to the administrative-territorial division of Ukraine, Dzhankoy is de jure part of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea , which is one of the territories occupied by Russia.
