Career

Denis Makarov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Chimik Voskressensk , for whose professional team he was active from 2000 to 2003 in the Vysschaya League , the second Russian division. The defender then spent a season each at their league rivals THK Tver and Kristall Elektrostal before making his Super League debut at the end of the 2004/05 season when he was on the ice in a game for his hometown club Chimik Woskressensk.

From 2005 to 2007 Makarov played for Severstal Tscherepowez in the Superliga, where he finished the 2006/07 season again at Chimik Woskressensk, which had since been relegated to the Wysschaja Liga. In the following three years, the left-shooter ran for the HK Lada Tolyatti - initially in the Super League and from the 2008/09 season in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . After the club had to leave the KHL for financial reasons and join the new second division Wysschaja Hockey League , he moved to the Russian capital for the KHL team HK Spartak Moscow .

Makarov spent two seasons at Spartak, in which he completed 85 KHL games, before moving to Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg within the league in June 2012 . He completed 23 KHL games for Awtomobilist before his contract was terminated at the end of December 2012.
