Michael Alan "Mike" Pelfrey (born January 14, 1984 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base , Ohio ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . Pelfrey has been playing for the New York Mets since making his MLB debut and is in the pitching position . He belongs to the group of so-called power pitchers. These are players who get a particularly large number of strikeouts .

Career

During his training, Mike Pelfrey played at Wichita State University in Wichita . In the 2005 MLB Draft , he was elected in the first round by the New York Mets. Half a year of full contract negotiations followed. Pelfrey was considered one of the greatest talents and wanted to be paid above average for a rookie. On January 10, 2006, the parties finally agreed on a contract. The player was awarded a four-season contract that earned him a $ 3.5 million signature bonus in addition to a fixed salary of $ 5.3 million.

After a short period in the minor league teams of the Mets, he made his debut in the National League on July 7, 2006 , where he secured his first MLB win in a 17: 3 win against the Florida Marlins . In his first season in the MLB, Pelfrey was used four times.

In the 5-6 defeat of the Mets, however, he allowed five opposing runs and started a weak season. At the end of 2009 he had a negative season record with a result of 10:12 and an ERA of 5.03.

Pelfrey's best season so far was 2010 . Especially at the beginning of the season he excelled with 10: 1 wins. Although he slacked off in the second half of the season, he ended up with 15 wins and 9 losses. He scored a very good 113 strikeouts with 204 pitched innings.

Change of club

On 20 December 2012, which gave Minnesota Twins announced that they Pelfrey for a one-year contract worth 4 million USD pledged. This move to the American League gave Pelfrey his worst in his 8 professional seasons as a pitcher. He finished the season with 5-13 (wins-losses) and an ERA of 5.19.
