Marcel Schneider (golfer)

Marcel Schneider (born February 6, 1990 in Bietigheim-Bissingen ) is a German golf professional who will play on the European Tour for the first time in 2018 .

career

Beginnings and youth sector

Schneider grew up in Pleidelsheim and started playing golf in 1999 during a family vacation in Zell am See at the age of 9 . After starting out on the Pleidelsheim soccer field, he joined the Schloss Monrepos Golf Club in Ludwigsburg in 2000 .

Schneider already attracted attention as a youth player, has been a member of the German Golf Association's national team since 2006 and, as an amateur, received his first invitation to the Postbank Challenge professional tournament in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 2007 . Schneider celebrated his first major success in 2008 when he secured the title of German Youth Champion (U18).

Amateur career

As an amateur, Schneider improved steadily and celebrated further successes. In 2012 he won the Australian Amateur Championship, the third largest amateur tournament in the world. In the same year he won the bronze medal at the European team championships with the Germany golf team . At the end of 2012 Schneider was in 6th place in the amateur world rankings and decided to become a professional for the 2013 season.

Professional career

In his first year as a professional, Schneider played on the Pro Golf Tour in 2013 and ended up in 14th place.

In 2013 and 2014 he was German runner-up among the professionals.

On the Pro Golf Tour 2014 he celebrated his first tournament victory as a professional at the Open Mogador in Morocco. After another victory at the Open Madaef and six other TOP5 placements, he secured the overall victory of the Pro Golf Tour 2014 and played on the Challenge Tour from 2015 .

In his first season on the Challenge Tour, 2nd place at the Gant Open in Finland and 5th place at the Aegeant Open were among his greatest successes. As the winner of the Pro Golf Tour 2014, Schneider was invited to the European Tour several times in the 2015 season . His best result was a 9th place at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco. He also played at the BMW International Open and the Czech Open .

In 2016, Schneider secured the German championship title.

In the 2017 season he secured his ticket for the European Tour 2018 as the 25th of the Qualifying School.

Schneider lives in Pleidelsheim. He is trained by Tony Lloyd (short game) and Richard Fries (technique).
