Steve McCrory (born April 13, 1964 in Detroit ; † August 1, 2000 there ) was an American boxer who was Olympic flyweight champion in 1984 . He is the brother of former WBC -Weltmeisters in the welterweight division , Milton McCrory .
amateur
McCrory won the bronze medal at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas . A year later he took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and became Olympic champion. In the final he beat Redzep Redzepovski from Yugoslavia , who defeated Jeff Fenech in the quarter-finals.
professional
Immediately afterwards he became a professional under Emanuel Steward . With eleven wins and one draw, he challenged Jeff Fenech for the IBF bantamweight belt on July 18, 1986 , but had no chance and lost the one-sided fight by technical knockout in the fourteenth round. It was his only major title fight in a disappointing professional career that lasted until 1991.
