In 1966 Delgado won the silver medal in the flyweight (-51 kg) at the Central America and Caribbean Games . He won the same medal at the Pan American Games in 1967 behind Francisco Rodríguez . At the 1968 Olympic Games , Delgado reached the final after defeating Brendan McCarthy, Ireland (5-0), Tetsuaki Nakamura, Japan (5-0), and Servilio de Oliveira , Brazil (5-0).
