Yampier Hernández

Yampier Hernández Gonzales (born August 30, 1984 in Havana ) is a Cuban boxer . Hernández was a bronze medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games , a silver medalist at the 2009 Pan American Championships and a 2008 Pan American Champion

Career

Until 2007, Hernández had to admit defeat to the internationally very successful Yan Barthelemí . After he switched to professional business, Hernández was used internationally for the first time and in 2007 and 2008 also Cuban champion in light flyweight (-48 kg).

In 2007 Hernández started at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Luis Yáñez , USA (11: 8). The following year he was Pan American champion in Cuenca . At the 2nd qualifying tournament for North and South America for the 2008 Olympic Games , he was able to advance to the semi-finals, in which he lost to Dominican Winston Méndez Montero . In the following fight for third place he was able to prevail against the Colombian Oscar Negrete Padilla and qualified for the Olympic Games in 2008. There he lost after victories over Scheralij Dostijew , Tajikistan (12: 1), Heorhij Tschyhajew , Ukraine (21: 3 ), and Paulo Carvalho , Brazil (21: 6), only in the semifinals against the Mongolian Pürewdordschiin Serdamba (+8: 8) and won the bronze medal.

In 2009 Hernández rose to flyweight (-51 kg) and lost in the final of the Cuban Championships against Marcos Forestal. Nevertheless, he started at the Pan American Championships, where he reached the final, which he lost to Braulio Ávila, Mexico (8: 7). At the World Championships in the same year, Hernández was eliminated in the quarterfinals against McWilliams Arroyo , Puerto Rico (6-2). In 2010 he was eliminated in the preliminary round of the national championships and in 2011 he started in bantamweight (-56 kg) and was also eliminated early.
