Róbert Isaszegi (* 2. May 1965 in Sárospatak ) is a former Hungarian boxers in the light flyweight .

Career

Róbert Isaszegi was around 1.65 m tall during his competitive career and boxed in the left display . In 1984 he became Hungarian champion for the first time. At the European Championships in Budapest in 1985 he defeated Andrew Docherty (5-0) and Ryszard Majdański (5-0) before he was eliminated in the semifinals against Iwajlo Marinow (2-3) with a bronze medal. At the 1986 World Championships in Reno, he lost in the first duel against the eventual bronze winner Oh Kwang-soo. In 1987 he was eliminated from the European Championships in Turin against Nschan Muntschjan in the quarter-finals.

In 1988 he represented Hungary at the Summer Olympics in Seoul and surprisingly won a bronze medal after beating Colin Moore (5: 0), Sadoon Abboud (RSC) and Chatchai Sasakul (3: 2) and only in the semifinals against Michael Carbajal (1: 4) was defeated.

1989 was another successful year. At the European Championships in Athens he beat Nschan Muntschjan , among others, and only failed in the final again to Iwajlo Marinow, making him vice European champion. He won another silver medal at the AIBA Challenge Matches in Casablanca . In addition, he reached fifth place at the World Championships in Moscow , this time he also managed a victory over Ivajlo Marinov.

In 1990 he won a bronze medal at the Goodwill Games in Seattle and reached the quarter-finals at the World Cup in Mumbai .

From 1998 to 2005 he played 21 professional fights with 19 wins and 2 losses. In December 2002 he won the WBO Intercontinental Championship in bantamweight and was able to defend it twice. In December 2005 he lost to Iván Pozo in the fight for the European Championship (EBU) in flyweight .
