Alfred Kotey

Alfred Kotey (* 3. June 1968 in Accra , † thirtieth June 2020 in New York City ) was a Ghanaian boxer in the bantamweight .

Career

Kotey started for his home country at the Olympic Games in Seoul , where he won against Kuwaiti al-Mutairi and Mwangata from Tanzania, but lost to Mariano González in the quarterfinals . After the games he began his professional career. On June 30, 1994 he boxed against Rafael Del Valle for the WBO world championship and won by a unanimous decision of the judges. He defended this title twice and lost it in December of the following year to Daniel Jiménez on points.

In 2012 he ended his career after 26 wins and 16 defeats. He died in late June 2020 at the age of 52.
