Joseph "Jorge" Agbeko (* 22. March 1980 in Accra , Ghana ) is a Ghanaian boxer in the bantamweight .

Professional career

In 1998 Agbeko successfully started his professional career. On September 29, 2007 he boxed against Luis Alberto Perez for the world championship title of the IBF Association and won by giving up in round 7. He defended this belt twice and lost it in October 2009 to Yonnhy Perez on points.

However, Agbeko defeated Perez in a direct rematch on December 11th of the following year on points and thereby regained the IBF world title.

Agbeko lost this belt this time in the title unification fight on August 13 of the following year against the WBC world champion Abner Mares by majority decision.

Honors

In 2010, the Ghanaian city of Sogakofe in the Volta region named Joseph Agbeko "warrior chief". His name was Togbe Kaletor I. , which means something like "brave warrior".
