Mario Loch (born December 30, 1969 in Räckelwitz ) is a former German boxer and runner-up European flyweight champion in 1991.

Career

Mario Loch started boxing in 1978 in Bischofswerda . Due to his success in the youth field, he was delegated to the performance center at SG Wismut Gera . The coaches of the 1.62 meter tall blond boy were Rudi Rockel, Uwe Korm, Gerhard Mey and others. Hans-Jürgen Witte. Mario Loch was a skilled construction worker by profession.

In 1987 Mario Loch became GDR paperweight champion with a points win over Jochen Födisch. At the GDR championship in 1988 he lost in the final of the paper weight against Rico Kubat and thus took 2nd place. After German reunification in 1990, Mario Loch did not change to a club in the former Federal Republic like most of the top GDR boxers, but stayed in Gera and joined the newly founded club SSV 90 Gera .

In 1991 he was beaten on points in the final of the German flyweight championship by Jan Quast (boxer) . Since Quast competed in the 1991 European championship in paper weight, the EM place in flyweight was free for Mario Loch. This showed excellent performance at this year's European Championships in Gothenburg . He won there over D. Jensen, Denmark (30:13), Rowan Williams, England (46:19) and Valentin Barbu, Romania on points and was only defeated in the final against István Kovács from Hungary on points (17:30).

In 1992, Mario Loch took first place in the flyweight division at the German championship. In the final battle he defeated Myrko Schade on points (17: 6). He then won the flyweight chemistry trophy in Halle (Saale) . In the final fight of this tournament he beat Rico Kubat from TSV 04 Bayer Leverkusen on points. This win earned him a ticket to the Olympic Games in Barcelona . In Barcelona he won his first fight against Vichai Khadpo from Thailand by breaking off in the 2nd round, but then lost in the round of 16 against David Serradas from Venezuela on points (4: 9). He was eliminated and finished in 9th place.

In the spring of 1993, Mario Loch surprisingly announced his departure from competitive sport at the age of only 23. He then worked for a few years in his profession as a construction worker and then moved across the country for a few years as a bar mixer with a mobile bar. A fix point in his life became his parents' place of residence in Aschaffenburg . In 2006 he boxed at a "boxing gala" in Gera, which was aimed at the meeting of former boxers from East and West, still slim and slim, against his former national team colleague Jan Quast in a friendly comparison.
