Fabrice Jeannet (born October 20, 1980 in Fort-de-France , Martinique ) is a former French sword fencer . He is five times world champion and was twice Olympic champion with the French epee team.

Career

After winning the Junior World Championship in 2000, he quickly achieved top results in the senior division. In 2001 he won the bronze medal in the individual as well as with the team at the world championship held in Nîmes, Germany . The following year in Lisbon, after losing to the Russian Pawel Kolobkow in the final, he was runner-up in the individual world champion and secured his first team world title as a member of the Degenteam. Finally, at the 2003 World Cup in Havana, he also won his first and so far only individual title.

What followed was a phase that was less successful in sporting terms. World Cup victories failed to materialize and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens he was eliminated from his teammate Éric Boisse in the quarter-finals. Only the Olympic victory with the French sword team made the balance better. At the 2005 World Cup in Leipzig, the epee team was able to confirm their Olympic victory with the gold medal and Jeannet also achieved a medal success in the individual with silver. In 2006 and 2007 he won his third and fourth title as team world champion at the world championships in Turin and St. Petersburg , in the individual competition he was eliminated in the first round in 2006 and did not report the following year. In May 2008, Jeannet announced his resignation from the national team for September 2008 , even before his participation in the Summer Olympics in Beijing was certain. He wants to focus on building his professional career in the IT field. At the Olympic competition he then advanced to the finals in the individual competition and was defeated there by the Italian Matteo Tagliariol . With the team he won the gold medal again.

Jeannet starts for the Club Lagardère PR and trains there with Jean-Marie Grubo and Jérôme Roussat . His brother Jérôme Jeannet also fought.
