Alexei Wladimirowitsch Nikantschikow ( Russian Алексей Владимирович Никанчиков ; born July 30, 1940 in Khabarovsk , Russian SFSR , † January 28, 1972 in Minsk , Belarusian SSR ) was a Soviet sword fencer .

successes

Alexei Nikanchikov won numerous medals and titles at world championships . He was world champion three times: 1966 in Moscow , 1967 in Montreal and 1970 in Ankara . In 1969 he also won silver in the individual in Havana . With the Soviet team, he secured the title in 1967 and 1969. In addition, he was runner- up in 1966 and 1971 . He took part in two Olympic Games : in 1964 he reached seventh place in the team competition in Tokyo . At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , he placed ninth in the individual. In the team competition he reached the final together with Hryhorij Kriss , Wiktor Modsolewski , Juri Smoljakow and Jossyp Vitebskyj , which Hungary won 7: 4.

Nikanchikov was married to the fencer Diana Nikanchikova . In January 1972, he died in an accident from carbon monoxide poisoning in his garage. He was buried in the Minsk cemetery, Chyshousky.
