Nikolai Novosjolov (born June 9, 1980 in Haapsalu ) is an Estonian sword fencer and world champion.

successes

Novosjolov achieved his greatest success at the 2010 World Championships in Paris . There he surprisingly became world champion in the individual epee competition. He was able to fight for another medal with the Estonian epee team in 2001, when they were only defeated in the final of the World Championships by Hungary . In 2012 he won silver in the epee singles at the European Championships in Legnano , in the final he lost to the Russian Pavel Suchow . In the 2011/2012 season he was number one in the world. In 2013 he was once again world champion in the individual epee competition.

Novosjolov also took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , where he was eliminated early on both times. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , Novosjolov finished ninth in the epee singles after losing to Weston Kelsey . In 2016 he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Géza Imre and finished eighth.

In 2010 and 2013 he was elected Sportsman of the Year in Estonia and was awarded the Order of the White Star in 2011 .
