Géza Imre (born December 23, 1974 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian sword fencer .

Life

He fights for the fencing department of the Budapest Honvéd . He has been married to Beatrix Kökény since 1999 , who achieved bronze in handball at the 1996 Olympic Games and silver in 2000 . The couple have two children.

In 1995 Géza Imre won bronze with the Degen team at the World Championships in The Hague . When he took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he won bronze in the singles and finished sixth with the Hungarian team. In 1998 he was European team champion in Plovdiv . In 2002 he won bronze in the epee singles at the European Championships in Moscow . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the team Krisztián Kulcsár , Gábor Boczkó , Iván Kovács and himself received silver behind the French team, in the individual he is 21st place. In 2007 he won bronze at the World Championships in Plovdiv with the same team as at the 2004 Olympic Games. In 2008 he was individual European champion in Kiev , at the Olympic Games in Beijing the Hungarian team finished fifth in the same composition and Imre took twelfth place in the individual .

In 2009 he won silver at the World Championships in Antalya with the team from Gábor Boczkó, András Rédli , Péter Somfai and himself. In 2010 his team won gold at the European Championships in Leipzig and bronze at the World Championships in Paris. In 2011 the team from Gábor Boczkó, Péter Szényi , Péter Somfai and himself won silver at the European Championships in Sheffield and at the World Championships in Antalya. 2012 he won bronze with the team at the European Championships in Legnano and at the World Championships in Kiev. In the same year, Imre defeated Moroccan Abdelkarim El Haouari in the epee singles in the round of 32 at the Olympic Games in London , but then lost to future silver winner Bartosz Piasecki and finished in fourteenth place, the team competition did not take place again until 2016. In 2013 he won silver with the team at the European Championships in Zagreb.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he won the individual silver medal behind Park Sang-young , and he won bronze with the team.
