List of Munros

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Overview map showing the division of the Munros into 17 regions by the SMC

The list of Munros includes all 282  Scottish mountains that are classified as Munro on the Munro List of the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC) and The Munro Society .

There is no clear definition of a munro. Sir Hugh Munro , after whom the mountains are named, first compiled a list in 1891 in which he included all the Scottish mountains known to him over 3000 feet (ft) high, which corresponds to 914.40 meters. In his successor, the list is maintained by the SMC, which he co-founded and who has updated it several times using new measurement data. Neither Munro nor the SMC have given a precise definition of a Munro's autonomy, but the list includes all Scottish mountain peaks with a notch height of at least 500 feet (152.4 meters). However, some Munros also have lower heights, some well below 100 meters.

The division into regions (English sections ) is based on the list of the SMC, within the regions the Munros are sorted according to height.

Region 1: Loch Lomond to Loch Tay
