The Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr is a mountain classified as Munro and Marilyn in Scotland . Its Gaelic name roughly means Great Rocky Point of the Moss . It is located on the west coast on the Council Area Highland east of Fort William in the Gray Corries mountain range . This connects to the east of the Nevis Range named after Ben Nevis , Great Britain's highest mountain .

At 1094 meters, the Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr is the third highest Munro of the Gray Corries , a complex mountain range consisting mainly of light quartzites with a total of four Munros and other peaks classified as top. The Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr is located at the western end of the mountain range, which is separated from the neighboring Aonach Beag to the west by the valley of the Allt Coire an Eòin and an approximately 730 meter high Bealach . Its pyramidal summit is part of the main ridge of the Gray Corries, which runs approximately from southwest to northeast . To the northeast, there is a transition to the Stob Coire Easain , a 1080 meter high Munro top of the neighboring Stob Coire on Laoigh , via the approximately 930 meter high Bealach Coire Easain in the main ridge . In a south-easterly direction, the main ridge runs over a 900-meter-high saddle and the 963-meter-high Sgùrr Choinnich Beag pre-summit into Glen Nevis . In the summit area, the pyramid of Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr is rocky and in parts falls steeply to the northwest into the Coire at Easain . To the southeast is a small, also steep and rocky-scree opens Kar , the Coire nan Cnàmhan .

Access to Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr is via the two ridges leading to the summit. Many Munro excavators climb the three Munros along the main chain of the Gray Corries as part of a long day tour. The starting point is the Coirechoille farm near Spean Bridge . From there the ascent leads over the Stob Choire Claurigh and its pre-summit and further along the main chain to the Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr. The Beinn na Socaich in front of the main chain in the north can also be used for ascent and descent, this is then reached at Stob Coire Easain , from there the Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr joins the main chain to the southwest. Alternatively, the mountain can also be climbed from Glen Nevis via its southern flank, past Sgùrr Choinnich Beag .
