The Stob Choire Claurigh (in Gaelic Stob Choire Clamhraidh , which roughly means top of the noisy Kars ) is a mountain in Scotland classified as Munro and Marilyn . It is located on the west coast on the Council Area Highland east of Fort William in the Gray Corries mountain range . This connects to the east of the Nevis Range named after Ben Nevis , Great Britain's highest mountain .

At 1177 meters, the Stob Choire Claurigh is the highest mountain in the Gray Corries and is in 15th place in the list of the highest Scottish mountains. The Gray Corries are a complex mountain range consisting mainly of light quartzites with a total of four Munros and more than Top classified peaks. The Stob Choire Claurigh is located in the eastern part of the mountain range, which is separated from the neighboring mountain range on the west bank of Loch Treig by the Lairig Leacach valley and the low pass of the same name . The broad summit of Stob Choire Claurigh represents the highest point in the main ridge of the Gray Corries, which runs approximately from southwest to northeast. From its summit there are several ridges, some of which end in pre-peaks, some of which create transitions to neighboring peaks. The main ridge, which continues to the northeast, ends in the 1123 meter high pre-summit of Stob Coire na Ceannain . A little northeast of the main summit branches off the 1.5 kilometer long north ridge, which ends in the 958 meter high Stob Coire Gaibhre and then slopes gently towards Spean Bridge and Great Glen . To the southeast follow the main ridge of the 1105 meter high Stob a 'Choire Lèith and the 1079 meter high Stob Coire Cath na Sìne , via which the transition to the southwest neighboring, 1116 meter high and classified as Munro on Laoigh is possible. To the southeast, a short ridge, which descends to an approximately 800 meter high Bealach , represents the transition to the 977 meter high Stob Bàn , a Munro located a little off the main chain in the southeast of the Gray Corries . The southeast and northeast ridge encompass the wide and deeply cut Kar Coire Claurigh . In the higher part of the Kars in particular, the walls of Stob Choire Claurigh drop off steeply and rocky, and the mountain below the summit area also has steep rock faces to the north, northwest and east.

There are access options via all three ridges of the summit. Many Munro excavators climb the three Munros along the main chain of the Gray Corries as part of a long day tour. The starting point is the Coirechoille farm near Spean Bridge. From there the ascent leads gently up to the northern pre-summit Stob Coire Gaibhre , from there over the long north ridge and then over the main ridge to the summit. From there the transition to the southwest to the other peaks is possible. The descent back towards Spean Bridge is possible via the north ridge of the neighboring Stob Coire on Laoigh . The tour can also be done in the opposite direction. Another ascent is possible over the Coire Claurigh and the saddle between Stob Bàn and Stob Choire Claurigh, but requires a longer approach.
