The Ben Macdhui ( Gaelic Beinn Mhic Dhuibh ) is at 1309 meters after the Ben Nevis the second highest mountain in Scotland and thus also Great Britain . It is located in the Cairngorms mountain range , which extends over most of the eastern and central Scottish highlands and is counted among the Munros .

Before the Ordnance Survey surveyed and created accurate maps, Ben Macdhui was believed to be the highest point in Great Britain. When, after precise measurements, it was confirmed that the highest mountain is Ben Nevis, there were proposals to erect a so-called cairn on the summit so that Ben Macdhui could again be considered the highest mountain. However, the plans were not put into practice.

Legend has it that Ben Macdhui is also the home of Am Fear Liath Mòr ("the big gray man"), who is said to be similar to the Yeti .
