The Ben Macdhui is made of basalt and is 3001 meters high. It is the second highest mountain in the South African province of Eastern Cape after the KwaDuma . It was named after the 1309 meter high Ben Macdhui in Scotland , the second highest mountain in Great Britain.
The Telle River has its source at Ben MacDhui . Due to the altitude, snow can fall in all seasons. The Tiffindell ski area is located on the southwest slope of the mountain at an altitude of around 2720 meters (see also: Ski areas in southern Africa ).
