Herbert "Bobbel" Büssers (born October 30, 1949 ) is a former German soccer player who was under contract with MSV Duisburg throughout his professional career and played 256 times in the Bundesliga .

Career

The midfielder Büssers came to Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg through the clubs GW Haesen, SpVgg Hochheide and VfB Homberg in 1972 at the age of 22. He made his debut on the first match day of the 1972/73 season, when he was in the starting line-up in a 3: 4 defeat by Borussia Mönchengladbach and was substituted at half time. He then often served as a substitute before he was usually called up from the start from the 1974/75 season. In this he was also successful as a goal scorer eight times and reached the DFB Cup final in 1975 with the MSV , in which he was not on the field and had to accept a 0-1 defeat of his colleagues against Eintracht Frankfurt . At least the team had qualified for the 1975/76 UEFA Cup , so Büssers made his European debut in a 7-1 win over Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni . In the second round, however, they were eliminated.

The midfielder developed in Duisburg alongside the national players Bernard Dietz , Ronald Worm and Rudi Seliger over time to become an important player within the team. In the 1976/77 season he showed a particularly strong form and thus contributed significantly to a corresponding appearance of the entire team. With ten goals, this was also his best year as a goalscorer, but after a weak final phase, the MSV ultimately only finished ninth in the table. From his point of view, however, the Bundesliga season 1978/79 was disappointing, in which he broke his left leg on matchday eight and had to fight for relegation after his return. At the same time, the competition for the 1979 UEFA Cup was completely different . With the help of Büssers, Duisburg was able to prevail in the quarterfinals against Honvéd Budapest from Hungary. He was also on the field in the semi-finals against Borussia Mönchengladbach , but had to accept the elimination against the neighboring club after a 2-2 defeat in the first leg due to a 4-1 defeat in the second leg.

Büssers was still a regular when MSV Duisburg slipped in the table around 1980 and the fight against relegation finally became the main task. In 1982 the founding member of the highest German league finally fell into the second division for the first time. Due to the extremely poor financial situation, several top performers such as Bernard Dietz had to be given up, while Büssers and Rudi Seliger, on the other hand, entered the second division. The now 32-year-old kept his regular seat. After Norbert Fruck initially carried out this function, he was also chosen by the team as their captain. Two years after relegation, MSV reached relegation and was allowed to play against Eintracht Frankfurt as third-bottom in the Bundesliga for a possible promotion. In the second leg on June 5, 1984, which ended 1: 1 and was not enough to rise due to a 5-0 defeat in the first leg, Büssers played his last competitive game for MSV. At the age of 34, he ended his professional career after twelve seasons without changing clubs. He played a total of 256 Bundesliga games with 53 goals and 65 second division matches with nine goals.
