Lying at the upper end of the valley of Glen Dochard , which is drained by Abhainn Shira in Loch Tulla , Meall nan Eun is part of a chain of mountains stretching from Rannoch Moor to Loch Etive , beginning with the Stob a 'Choire Odhair to the east and west ending at Ben Starav , includes several Munros. The immediate western neighbor is the Stob Coir 'on Albannaich , to the east the Meall nan Eun is separated from the other mountains of the chain by the 632 meter high Bealach Lairig Dhochard . Meall nan Eun towers over the head of the valley like a dome with its rounded structure enclosed in a wide summit plateau. To the north, east and south it has steep, rocky slopes below the summit plateau, which are clearly cut through in the east by the Coire on Lighiche , which begins in the summit area . Only to the west does the Meall nan Eun have gentler slopes to the end of the Glen Ceitlein as well as a high transition over the 877 meter high Beinn Tarsuinn to Stob Coir 'on Albannaich.
Because of the steep and rocky slopes, which face the east and south, most Munro excavators climb the Meall nan Eun from the west, usually combined with an ascent of the Stob Coir 'on Albannaich. The starting point is the former Coileitir farm in Glen Etive . From there the shortest ascent leads through the valley of the Allt Ceitlein and the Coirean Riabhach at the head of the valley from the northwest to the summit plateau. Alternatively, the summit can be reached from Stob Coir 'on Albannaich via Beinn Tarsuinn. Both climbs have rugged , rocky, steep sections below the summit plateau . Ascents from the east through Glen Dochard have their starting point at the west end of Loch Tulla , but require significantly longer approaches and some climbing skills.
