Bridge of Orchy ( Scottish Gaelic : Drochaid Urchaidh ) is a location in the Argyll and Bute Council Area and the traditional county of Argyll in Scotland . The name of the place refers to the bridge built in 1751 by Major Caulfeild over the River Orchy .

Founded in 1751, the place consists of a few houses, many of which have been abandoned. A high-priced tourist hotel dominates the village; there are also two hiking hostels and a guesthouse. The only industry in town is tourism, mainly by hikers on the West Highland Way . Accordingly, the place has been developing into a ghost village for several years. The former elementary school is closed and the houses are falling into disrepair. Bridge of Orchy has only seven residents.

The village is on the A82 at the head of Glen Orchy . The bus route between Glasgow and Fort William stops at Bridge of Orchy. A West Highland Line train stops three times a day in each direction at the local train station, with the Caledonian Sleeper providing a direct night train connection to and from London.
