The Beinn Dorain ( Beinn Dòbhrain in Gaelic , translated mountain of rivulets or mountain of otters ) is a 1076 meter high mountain in Scotland . It is located in the Argyll and Bute Council Area . The Beinn Dorain is located east of the small village of Bridge of Orchy and is one of the Munros due to its height . From the south, the mountain looks like a steep, grass-covered pyramid , but it consists of an elongated ridge running in north-south direction, which ends in a Bealach in the north at about 750 m height . To the north of this pass is the Beinn an Dòthaidh , another Munro, also over 1000 m high.

The mountain is known in Scotland by the Scottish Gaelic poet Duncan Ban MacIntyre (1724-1812) and his poem "Moladh Beinn Dòbhrainn" (in English: "In Praise of Ben Doran"). He pays tribute to the striking mountain in one of the most famous Gaelic poems. Translated into English, it begins with the following verses:

Honor beyond each ben
for Ben Doran;
Of all I have seen beneath the sun,
she is the most glorious for me ...

The Beinn Dorain is, as its Gaelic name suggests, the headwaters of many streams and rivulets that arise on its slopes. It is therefore a rather humid mountain compared to other mountains in the Highlands and habitat for a large number of amphibians .

Due to its convenient location on the A82 between Glasgow and Fort William and the West Highland Way, the mountain is one of the most popular Munros. The ascent from Bridge of Orchy runs in the valley of the Allt Coire an Dothaidh to the pass between Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dòthaidh, from there over the long ridge to the summit.
